Overview
What Is the Hifz Course?
Hifz means memorising the Quran. Keeping what you have memorised is as much work as learning it, so every class includes revision as well as new lines, and Hifz is taught as one intensive plan of five classes a week.
- Pace
- 5 classes a week
- Class length
- 45 minutes
- Ages
- 7 and up, including adults
- Certificate
- On completing the Quran
Before You Start
Are You Ready for Hifz?
You need to read the Quran fluently with basic Tajweed, because mistakes get memorised too. In the free trial the teacher hears you read and tells you whether to begin Hifz now or strengthen your reading first.
Hifz suits
- Children from about 7 who already read fluently
- Teenagers who want to memorise alongside school
- Adults who can keep five classes a week and revise between them
Not yet, if
- You still read slowly or make frequent mistakes. Work on correct reading first in Tajweed
- Your child is still learning to read: Quran for Kids
- Five classes a week is more than you can keep at the moment. Hifz is only taught on the intensive plan, so talk to us before booking.
Every Class
Manzil, Sabaqi and Sabaq
Each class has three parts, in this order.
Manzil: older revision
Portions memorised weeks or months ago, recited from memory in turn, so they are refreshed before they fade.
Sabaqi: recent revision
The most recent lessons, recited again while they are still new and easy to lose.
Sabaq: the new lesson
The new portion, recited to the teacher, who corrects it before it settles in memory.
How much new material you take on is set with the teacher, and depends more on how much you can keep revising than on how much you can memorise.
The Order
How Memorisation Moves Through the Quran
Readiness check in the free trial
The teacher hears you read and decides with you whether to begin.
Juz Amma first, then working back
Memorisation starts with Juz Amma and its short surahs, then works back through the Quran from the end.
Each completed Juz recited from memory
When a Juz is finished, you recite it to the teacher from memory.
Certificate on completing the whole Quran
A certificate is given when the whole Quran is memorised. There are no certificates for single Juz.
Scheduling
Planning Five Classes a Week
Hifz Intensive is 5 classes a week of 45 minutes, so the timetable matters more here than on any other course. If you can, choose the same hour on five weekdays: memorising, then revising yesterday and last week, is easier to keep up when the class is at a settled time.
If five weekday slots cannot be found, weekend classes are available. Say which hours are impossible as well as which are ideal, since that is what makes matching quicker.
- You choose the days and times
- Classes run 7 days a week. You tell us the days and times that suit you, and we match a teacher who is free then.
- Confirmed in your own time zone
- Your class time is agreed in your local time. The class stays at the same local time for the family. The teacher adjusts. See class times where you live.
- Moving a class
- Let us know at least 4 hours before and the class is moved and made up, with no limit on makeups. Missed without notice? The class counts, because the teacher waited.
- Weekends
- Saturday and Sunday classes are available. There is a small extra per weekend class, listed on the Pricing page.
Times and Prices
The Hifz Intensive Plan
Hifz is taught on one plan only, five classes a week, because memorisation needs regular contact with the teacher.
A plan is a package of classes. The next bill is sent when the package is completed, not on a fixed calendar date. Unused classes in a paid package are refunded.
Hifz Intensive
5 classes a week, 45 minutes each. One package is 20 classes.

Weekend classes carry a small extra charge per class. To stop, give 7 days' notice before your next bill; unused classes in a paid package are refunded.

What Gets in the Way, and What Helps
- Forgetting earlier portions
- It is expected, and it is why manzil is part of every class. A portion that slips is revised more often until it is secure again.
- Revision at home
- Memorisation needs time between classes too. The teacher will tell you what to go over, and for children, a parent listening at home can help.
- Exams, travel and illness
- Moved classes are made up. After a break, the teacher can spend more of each class on revision before adding new lines.
- Fitting five classes around work
- Choose times you can keep every week, and we match a teacher who is free then. A pattern you can sustain matters more than an ambitious one.
An Honest Answer
How Long Does Hifz Take?
It depends on the student: their age, how fluently they read, how much they revise at home and how consistent they are from week to week. We do not promise a finish date.
Once a teacher has heard you and seen how you manage the first portions, they can give you their own estimate. You can ask for one at any time.

Questions About Hifz
